Alternate Nostril Breathing
Intensity Level
How To
Alternate Nostril Breathing calms the nervous system and helps us balance our energy. This breath alternates between the left and right sides to cleanse the energetic pathways that run throughout the body. We use our hand to control the air flow through the nasal passages and hold the breath in between the inhalation and exhalation.
- Begin in a cross legged seated position. Sit up tall so you have a straight spine. Close your eyes and bring your focus inward.
- Take a nice deep breath in through both nostrils, and a nice exhale out. Relax your jaw, close your eyes.
- Seal the right nostril with the right thumb finger. Nice long smooth deep breath as you inhale in through the left nostril.
- Seal the left nostril with the ring finger and exhale out through the right nostril. Inhale through the right nostril.
- Same thing on the other side. Seal the right nostril with the thumb finger and exhale out through the left nostril. Inhale through the left nostril.
- Repeat the last two steps
