How To

This breathing technique involves passive, normal inhalations and powerful, rapid exhalations.The exhale, which requires you to contract your abdominal muscles, is the main focus of this technique.

The inhale and exhale should be the same length, without any pauses in between. The pattern of your breathing is more important than the speed. So, start slow if you’re new to the technique. You can speed it up later on.

Steps:

  • Begin in a cross legged seated position. Make sure you’re comfortable and relax the hands and rest them on top of the knees.
  • Sit up tall so you have a straight spine. Close your eyes and bring your focus inward.
  • Inhale through your nose (stomach pushes out)
  • Exhale forcefully through your nose while contracting your abdominal muscles (stomach pulls in)
  • Continue the rhythm, inhaling passively and exhaling forcefully.

Tips

Exhale forcefully

Your exhales should be powerful and loud. Belly out on inhale, and in on exhale.
