Sun Salutation is a series of poses that are linked together, moving on the breath.
Mountain Pose ⇒ Arms tall towards ceiling ⇒ Forward Fold ⇒ Flat Back ⇒ Chatturunga ⇒ Upward Dog ⇒ Downward Dog ⇒ Forward Fold ⇒ Mountain Pose ⇒ Arms tall towards ceiling ⇒ Arms at Heart Center
- Start in a mountain pose at the top of the mat. Feet are hips width apart. Hands by the sides.
- With inhale, sweep the arms up high reaching towards the ceiling.
- As you exhale, bend at the hips for forward fold.
- While you inhale, lift to a flat back. Finger tips can come to the floor or shins.
- As you exhale, hands plant on the floor, as you step back through Chatturunga, bending to 90 degrees elbows.
- With inhale, lift to upward facing dog
- Exhale, find downward facing dog
- With inhale, come out on the toes, gaze between your hands, and as you exhale, you can step or hop to forward fold.
- Inhale, rise up all the way to standing, reaching hands up to the sky, then exhale settling your hands at heart center.
Tips
Tip 1
Keep breathing along the way. Consider doing 108 sun salutations, and see how meditative this can get, like a long distance run!
