How To

The Tuck Front Lever is a calisthenic move that targets the back and core. This is considered a beginner progression exercise towards completing the full front lever hold. To get started:

  1. Grab the bar with a shoulder width grip with your hands facing away from you.
  2. As you’re in the full hang position with toes pointed, think about pushing down on the bar as you raise your knees towards your chest.
  3. Contract your abs hard to keep your knees tucked, while trying to keep your upper torso parallel to the ground.
  4. Hold for time.

Tips

Tip 1

The hips should be kept at the same level as the shoulders and head. Practicing in front of a mirror is a good way to keep an eye on your positioning in this area.

Tip 2

Be sure to keep your focus straight up to the ceiling with the jaw closed and the tongue on the roof of the mouth. This is called the physiologic rest position and plays a role in stabilizing the neck.
